What a wonderful thought.
The word "gift" came from the Lord Jesus' mouth when He said
to the woman at the well, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that
says to you..."
It continues on in Acts when Peter preached Christ's resurrection
stating that if repentance came, they would receive the gift of the Holy
Spirit.
Paul writes in Ephesians that the gift of salvation is free
by grace through faith.
Then there are the gifts of God by the Holy Spirit to
encourage, exhort and edify the body of Christ.
God speaks of Christ as our gift - "The gift of
Christ."
As we grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus
Christ, we say with Paul, "Thanks be to God for His unspeakable
gift." II Corinthians 9:15.
We have the gift of Righteousness (Christ), Justification,
Sanctification, Glorification, Wisdom - all coming from God and His Son by His
Word and Spirit.
We are not without treasure, aid, power, blessing upon this
earth. His Divine Power has provided all
we need for life and godliness.
On earth whenever we receive a gift, we perhaps appraise its
value. What did it cost? Who gave it?
Why did they give it? Has it come
to me personally? How do I treasure the
gift? How will I view it the rest of my
life?
God's gift to us cost His precious Son - His blood, His
sufferings, His all. God gave His Son
to save us. We are saved individually
and personally. We all can treasure Who
and What has been given to us. And by
the power of God's Spirit and the effectiveness of His Word of Grace in us, we
can hold God's gift near and dear for all our days on this earth.
"Father, we truly thank you for Your Son, Jesus
Christ. We thank you for the Gift of the
Holy Spirit Who guides and teaches us all truth. We thank you for the cross, for the Lord's
precious blood that has cleansed our lives, brought us into right standing with
you and established eternal peace with you.
We thank you that you have bestowed gifts upon us to be employed to
edify your body - to build up your body in love. We thank you for your unspeakable gift. Cause us to KNOW beyond human comprehension
the depths of your great salvation, Your Holy Word, and precious Holy Spirit
living within our hearts. Amen."
