That You May Know

"These things I have written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God."  I John 5:13

"That you may know..."

This has become one of the most important realities of my heart.  God's Spirit has been working in me since the day I believed in Christ Jesus and God's Gospel - and, since the day I was sealed by God's Holy Spirit.   Ephesians 1:13

What is knowing?

It is certainly not of the brain nor of the human intellect.  It is of the heart.  Heart knowing results in joy and peace.  Romans 15:13

When we know by God's Spirit, we walk in absolute peace and joy.  "The mind of the Spirit is life and peace."

I equate "coming to know" like hanging around a swimming pool.  I could attend all the seminars how swimming pools are built, look at countless pictures of them continuing to believe in their existence - I can even talk about the swimming pool at the park.  But after all that, when I fall in one and experience the water, the depth, the all and all of the pool, then I can say "I know swimming pools!"

Kind of a silly analogy I guess but to me gets the point across.   God is meaning for us to KNOW HIM - to truly and actually KNOW with the fullness of our hearts all WHO Christ is for us, to us, and in us.

Paul said in Philippians 3 that he continued to press upward to the high calling in Christ Jesus.  He explained in the first part of this chapter how he had all the head knowledge, the "form" of a good religion.  He counted it all rubbish in order to gain and know the excellent knowledge of the Living Son of God.

Then he proceeds with "That I may KNOW HIM and the power of His resurrection..."

We have such a glorious salvation in Jesus Christ.  We have yet to uncover the depths of Him.  This life here on planet earth is our wondrous opportunity to discover Christ and the unfathomable riches of God's grace through Him.

His will is for us to know,

Sue Gaither
