Years ago I heard a
song at church sung by a men's trio. The name of the song is "The Gentle
Healer." I remember so well, a line in the song "The Gentle
Healer is in town today." This song really touched me - and there have been
many throughout my lifetime that has deeply touched my heart.
And they've "stuck" with me, too.
I was thinking about
all those people Jesus touched when he was on earth. I was even thinking
about the crowds of 4,000 and 5,000, when he was teaching them on the mountaintop.
If you and I had lived
back then, we might have heard those words: "The Gentle Healer is in town
today." And we might have rushed to the city, the market place or
that mountaintop, just to hear Him speak.
The Scriptures do not
record this, but I can just imagine that there were those in the crowds of
thousands, who when they heard Jesus just even teaching, were touched with His Words coming
out of His mouth and even the words He spoke were healing them.
Has anything really
changed about Him? Don't think so. What is amazing is that the
Gentle Healer came to live inside you and me through His Holy Spirit.
So when He speaks, our
hearts are lifted. When He reveals, we experiencing His Life - the
quickening of His Words.
And the thing is, we
will KNOW, when we truly do hear and understand His Words and that He can put
"two and two together" for us.
If He were back on
earth today, right now and someone came and said to you, "The Gentle
Healer is in town today," what would you do?
Would you be like
me? Grab a bottle of water and go where He was? And would you
quickly get on your cell phone and tell your friends, your family - "The
Gentle Healer is in town today - come go with me?"
Yes, you would.
We'd run as fast as we could, because there is not a soul who believes in Him
that does not want to continually to be touched by Him, to "see" Him,
to "hear" Him and His marvelous Words of Life.
There is also not a soul
who believes in Him, who does not continually NEED to be touched by HIM,
"hear" Him, "see" Him with the eyes and ears of their
heart.
Well, He's here
today. Again, in you and me - in our hearts if we are in Christ. He alone is the HOPE
of Glory. He knows HOW to heal the mind, renew the spirit and the mind
with HIS Words of Life and Truth. And oh may I remind us not to "wade
in" His Word without Him. For HE interprets ALL things.
I know we try to help
each other with our words of advice, our teachings, our knowledge, experience,
etc. But ultimately - so ultimately we "gotta" get each other to
"see" the ONE who puts it all together for us, HEALS the broken-hearted, and touches the human spirit with continual rivers of living waters.
I have a dear friend
who loves the song: "River of My Life," meaning Jesus is indeed, the RIVER of our lives and hearts.
Most of all, we can
know that this Person, the Lord Jesus Christ, can truly make sense out of all
our lives, bring us into His image, so that the end of our days are indeed,
better and more glorious than the beginning. This is what it means so
much to trust HIM as "our HOPE of Glory!"
"That I may know
Him and the power of His resurrection..." is the life's goal for all who will make it their
goal. And in doing so, His eternal purpose will be known to us and
through us. And yes, all is well.
Gone to talk with the Gentle Healer,
Sue Gaither
