"In Him ALL the treasures of
divine wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and ALL
the riches of spiritual knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie
hidden." Colossians 2:3
(Amplified)
When
Gary and I were dismantling our house in preparation to come to Ecuador, I
opened a chest he had for years. We
moved that "thing" several times when changing houses. It was something he brought into our marriage
and I just never took the time to find out what was in it.
Until
that day... when I had to go piece by piece, everything in our household to
determine what I needed to keep or give away.
As
I opened it, I discovered pictures and various things. Picking up each item, I would make a sound of
either "aah," "ooh," or "ugh!" I actually found a necklace, a bracelet, and
some gifts he had bought to give away later to people on a given occasion.
It
was amazing how that chest sat in storage, not opened to either review (on
Gary's part) or discover for the first time (on my part), what was actually in
it.
In
regard to the above Scripture found in Colossians, I believe we do the same
thing regarding the riches of Christ. We
have the greatest Truth written in God's Word that in Christ are hidden ALL the
treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
I
particularly like the Amplified rendition of this passage as it does exactly
that - amplifies! We are told that God
has comprehensive insight of His ways and purposes, and riches of spiritual
knowledge and enlightenment are stored and lie hidden in Christ, His Son.
Where
does Jesus live? He is sitting at the
Right Hand of the Majesty on High. Yet
He is also living in my heart, and in your heart through and by the Holy Spirit
given to us as the Gift of God.
Paul's
message in his epistles has one theme.
"Christ is in You," and He is your all - He is Your hope of
Righteousness (in living it out), He is the Life and Fruit of our vessels. He is the One Who is the Head over all
things. He is, He is.
We
have this priceless profound privilege to know Him, to discover ALL Who He
is.
Referring
back to the time I opened Gary's "treasure" chest, I made some
sounds. And the unique point of this
Scripture is that no one who discovers TREASURE makes an "ugh" sound!
All
treasure is "ooh and aah!" We'll
know we are discovering the riches of our Lord and Savior when this comes from
our hearts.
So,
if they lie hidden - seems to me the thing left to do is come to Him and ask
Him to reveal those precious realities.
In another passage we are told that the Spirit reveals the things of God
freely regarding the realities of Christ and God's great salvation.
Oh
may we realize that it is God who gives us His Truth by revelation through His
Word and Spirit. They are not earned -
they are given. And by giving them, we
are transformed.
"Thank
you dear Father for opening up those precious treasures that lie hidden in Your
Son."
