Sometimes I just want to and love to be reminded of some
simple hymns or songs – and it’s wonderful how the Holy Spirit “lights up” the
words into deeper and greater meaning concerning Christ and God’s GREAT
salvation.
Here’s one verse and chorus of one of those hymns:
Years I spent in vanity and pride,
Caring not my Lord was crucified,
Knowing not it was for me He died on Calvary.
Caring not my Lord was crucified,
Knowing not it was for me He died on Calvary.
Refrain
Mercy there was great, and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me;
There my burdened soul found liberty at Calvary.
Vanity, pride, caring not, and KNOWING NOT are the truest enemies to understanding the GREAT salvation of God, the LOVE OF GOD, the TRUE LIBERTY in CHRIST, and the multiplied PARDON we have indeed received from God ALL because of Jesus Christ.
Mercy there was great, and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me;
There my burdened soul found liberty at Calvary.
The mercies of GOD are ever flowing to us and to all
the generations that have preceded us.
When God starts curing our ignorance, we realize just how merciful,
long-suffering and kind He has been and is being toward us. I have always taken great interest in the
parable Jesus gave of the sower and the seed.
We all know it – how the sower sowed the Word of God and the enemy
snatched it away. Then there is the
other parable how tares were sown alongside the wheat and God left them both
(and leaves them both through many generations).
Today, we have tares all around us. But the glory of God is known by us when we
allow the Lord to teach us and show us the WHEAT – meaning the Truth and the
PURITY of God’s Word of Life and Truth.
The purity of God’s WORD results in PERFECT PEACE! Wheat represents FRUITFULNESS. Who likes to eat tares? Yuck!
The GREAT and PERFECT will of God is for us to KNOW and
to UNDERSTAND to the fullest measure, the work of CALVARY – CHRIST’s CROSS, the
POWER of HIS resurrection dwelling in our hearts through His Spirit, and the
TRUE KNOWLEDGE of the SON of GOD and HOW He translates that into this walk
right here and now.
Paul the Apostle used these phrases a number of times
in his letters to the churches: “Know ye
not?” “Are you ignorant of the
fact…?” “You are still carnal, walking
as mere men…” “Be not like the Gentiles who are alienated from the life of God
and walk in the futility of their mind…”
Paul’s mission to the churches (and collectively they
were and we are all part of the ONE CHURCH) was to point to Christ Jesus – the
Power of HIS Person now dwelling in the hearts of those who believed and
received God’s Gospel concerning His Son.
This knowledge and wisdom is on-going in our lives – we
can never stop because we are learning a PERSON and His LIFE within us, NOT
mere methods, formulas, or anything exalting itself against Him. I will say this – many would rather have the
principles and the ideas of the Lord than to really be subject to HIM. But that’s a trick of Satan – because NO ONE,
absolutely NO ONE loves us like the Lord HIMSELF. So why not be subject to the ONE who is
PERFECT in HIS GREAT love, and bestows HIS wisdom, knowledge and understanding?
The greatest work of the Holy Spirit in my life has
been for Him to make Christ so real to me, in me, and through me. This work results in such dependence and a
true life-flow of Him. Therefore it
won’t be a one-time prayer, a once-in-a-while prayer, or a smidge of this, a
smidge of that Christianity. No, instead – it results in the reality of our
UNION with Christ Himself, communion with God, His Son, and His Spirit, AND
most of all – every breath is about Jesus Christ. And prayers never cease, because the Spirit
of God has worked the awareness of our utter dependence on HIM at all times.
What a wonderful LIFE!
For this throws out ALL religiosity – ALL vanity and pride that FLESH
and BLOOD can produce such a thing – and engenders our faith, trust and HOPE to
look to Jesus Christ ALONE as the LIVING ONE in and through us now and
forevermore!
You know, all I can say is “Thank you God for this
great liberty and union in the Person of Jesus Christ dwelling in our hearts –
He is indeed the ONE and the ALL and ALL who produces the Will of God in and
through us!”
