The Lord is the only One who has a way to reach the heart of
a person. He is the Unique One. And since He IS love, His way is what we seek
to know with all of our hearts.
There is a song I sang years ago - I have only heard it song
a few times by others. A line in it goes
like this: "The way that He loves is so thrilling because, His love reaches
even me."
Sometimes we do not go to great effort to
"connect" with God's Word in such a way where we have plugged into
His heart in communicating to us. There
is indeed, depth in what He has provided for us in the Scriptures. And yet it truly takes the Holy Spirit to
reveal such meaning.
There is an advantage to those who lived before us who did
not have the resources we have today on the internet. You do not have to agree with me, but I
believe there is a downside to our advancements.
Take for instance King David, author of Psalm 23. He was a poor shepherd boy, who in his activities
as a young boy, got to know God as Shepherd.
Imagine him in the fields with sheep and God's Spirit touched his heart
as a young one. Through his own
shepherding he understood some things about God Himself so that he could write:
"The Lord is my
Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me
to lie down in green pastures. He leads
me beside the still waters. He restores
my soul. He leads me in the paths of
righteousness for His name sake. Yea,
though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,
for you are with me. Your rod and staff,
they comfort me. You prepare a table
before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my cup with oil; my cup runs
over. Surely goodness and mercy shall
follow me ALL the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever."
As a side note, Gary and I visited Israel years ago. I was able to see the valley they really do
call, "The Valley of the Shadow of Death." It is a deep valley that by four o'clock in
the afternoon the shadows fall on them and it is pitch black. Can you imagine David as a young shepherd boy
traveling through that valley when those shadows start to fall? Yet he says, "Though I walk through...I
will fear no evil for You are with me."
David became a King by God's appointment and choosing, full
of riches - so much so that he was able to finance the Temple he desired to
build for God. He had servants and had
been a mighty man in battle commanding thousands of soldiers into war.
Yet when David sinned and had covered over his conscience, (like
thousands do today), God sent Nathan the prophet to tell a story. What was that story? It was about a sheep being stolen. What a selection by the Lord to cut through
to David's very heart, where the chords of intimacy had been buried - the love
he shared with God Himself. God did not
speak to David as a king, but as one who once was a shepherd.
As soon as God was able to "hit that note" down
deep within his heart, David responded to God.
Questions to ask: Is
God speaking to me and I do not hear Him?
In what way He is speaking to me?
To me, it's not enough to reach the intellect, the soulish
part of us that accumulates more information.
I know God can use this - stored up knowledge like squirrels store up
nuts for a later time. But when do the squirrels get their nuts? When they are
hungry.
A hungry spirit feeds on the life and richness of fellowship
with the living God and His Son Jesus Christ.
He is our Living Bread, He is the whole reason we are alive today -
because His goodness and mercy have followed us.
I believe our God and the Lord Jesus Christ enjoys our
fellowship, when we are sitting at His feet, listening for the richness of His
Truth to play music in our hearts - yes, beautiful, glorious songs of life.
Another intimate Scripture to me is this: "Behold
I stand at the door and knock, if any man hear my voice and will open the door,
I will come into him and sup (dine) with him, and he with me." Rev. 3:20
Everyone has a heart that needs to be touched by the only
One who can touch it - God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. What dining can we find with Him today? What might we hear from Him that plays the
song of sweet intimacy?
"Lord, have your
way with us - seep through all the layers of anything that hinder the song of
the Lord rising up in our hearts like the morning sun. Show us the depths of your great love and
salvation and let us walk with you so closely.
Thank you for your goodness and mercy that have indeed, followed us all
the days of our lives. We are grateful
that we shall dwell in your house forever. because of your dear Son, Jesus
Christ. And Lord, do reach all the notes
inside our hearts that we may sing from our hearts/spirits of our Great Redeemer, Shepherd, Brother, and
Friend."
