So back to the why Christians are NOT to walk by the
Law. There is something much deeper
here. And that is the person himself has
been wrong in the reason why he cannot perform righteousness. We all know this. Repeating – if the Law was given to expose
sin, it was also given also, to expose
the spirit of the person being dead
in sins. This exposure is supposed to
create the need for a Savior, after hearing the Good News.
The completion of the Good News is telling the lost person and
yes, the believer - that not only is one forgiven of sins through Christ’s
blood, but He gets to have the very person of Christ come to dwell in his human
spirit and made alive through HIM! Now that’s grace!
This makes the person no longer a son of disobedience and
walking according to the spirit of error (as Ephesians 2:1 puts it), but now a son of God, walking according to
the Spirit of Righteousness (Jesus!) Now
that’s grace!
So the person is right now – the very core of the person is
absolutely made new. Now that’s grace!
What does this leave now?
This child of God is to now live that life of faith. Paul calls this in his closing comments of
Romans (chapter 16) “the obedience of
faith.” If we want REAL change, let
us walk in true faith in Jesus. And
while we are at it, if we are dead to the Law, let us not put other believers
under it!
Therefore, without a doubt, this Christian walk is to be
lived by a Person – faith in Jesus Christ – the One Who is Life – abounding
Life. Again, read Romans 6 now in
light of yielding to the Person of Jesus
in order to bear fruit. And let us reckon ourselves dead to not only
sin, but to the Law as God Himself prescribed.
He has promised that we will bear fruit.
Paul does address behaviors in his letters – and we’ll get there!
I believe this is a faithful statement: It is
about His Life being manifested in and through us by and through our faith in
Him, not flesh and blood’s performance to be like Him.
Next time Paul is going to demonstrate what happens when a person
puts themselves back under the Law.
Romans and Galatians certainly are two letters to compare spiritual with
spiritual. So to capsule this precious
Chapter 6 and what has been said, I shall close with the reality as penned in
Galatians 2:20.
“I have been
crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me;
and the life I now live in this flesh (our bodies), I live by FAITH in/of the SON OF GOD, who
loved me and gave Himself for me.”
Oh for grace, to trust HIM more,
Sue Gaither
