The Magnitude of Christ’s Death and Resurrection

I love the verse from “It Is Well With My Soul,” that says:
“My sin, oh the bliss of this glorious thought, my sin – not in part but the WHOLE – is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more – praise the Lord, praise the Lord O my soul!”
My children, these things I write to you in order that ye may not sin; and if any one sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ [the] righteous;
2 and *he* is the propitiation for our sins; but not for ours alone, but also for the whole world.  I John 2
6 All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned everyone to his own way; and Jehovah hath laid upon him the iniquity of us all.  Isaiah 53

In thinking about the sins of the whole world throughout generations so far, from Adam in the garden to our present day, we have to realize the magnitude of what truly was placed upon the body of our Lord.

Just reading the Old Testament with all the wars, assassinations, killings, murders, rapes, burnings, false gods, strayings, and evil, evil, evil – then, to move forward through the times into all generations – even into our generation with all that we know of sin in mankind – you have to realize what truly indeed was laid upon Jesus Christ on the cross.

Then to think that through His sacrifice God was reconciling the world back to Himself into His favor without charge of all these things – simply, yes simply through faith in Jesus Christ, His blood, His sacrifice – and ALL by God’s grace and mercy!  Astounding – AMAZING GRACE!

This is the GIFT of GOD no one should spurn!  And since the Lord Himself did all this – what does it truly mean for us right now, in our daily lives regarding sin?

Oh my – that if God has brought His Son into our hearts – that if, God’s favor and grace is ours to the utmost, and if God has put His Spirit into our hearts as sons through faith, then it’s rather easy for God to continually keep us and save us from sin’s dominion, from the world’s lures, from false idols and false teachings.

But how?  Through looking at Jesus Christ – the wonders of Him, the grace and love of Him, the power of Him, the purpose of Him, the mercies of Him, the presence of Him – ALL the TIME!

Satan’s greatest strategy to me, is to get us off on some religious jag – like we are “adding” something or “contributing” - something to God’s GREAT and MARVELOUS salvation – as if these peon little flesh and blood vessels can “DO” something to help us be something we already ARE in CHRIST through the regenerating WORK of HIS SPIRIT because we BELIEVE in Christ Jesus and the Gospel.

“Oh for GRACE to TRUST (BELIEVE) God.”  Simple faith in the GREAT GOD of our SALVATION and gratitude for the GREAT MERCIES He has given to us in His Son.  He is able to FINISH the WORK He started in us!

The Resurrected Son of God – the ONE who BORE the sins of the WHOLE WORLD lives in you and me.  Sounds like nothing is too hard for Him, huh?

In Christ’s love and trusting with you in HIM,

Sue Gaither
